About Us

We met whilst backpacking on the Appalachian Trail in Harriman State Park, NY. Sarah was hanging barefoot in her hammock when Travis approached from the hill, asking where to find water. Sarah hopped up and they compared maps. Travis’s map clearly showed a big capital W right where Sarah was hanging, but neither of her two maps had anything like that. In lieu of water, she offered whisky, which he declined, but the conversation flowed from there. Sarah sneakily got his number after he came back a couple hours later, but the rest is not, as they say, history: the number was wrong.

Our full story is in this post, but we eventually connected, and a month later had our first date. We’ve been hiking, camping, cycling, and exploring together ever since. Sarah moved in with Travis after about 7 months of a grueling three-hour one-way drive we traded every single weekend just to see each other.

A year later, Travis proposed on the black rocks in the secluded Pololu Valley on the Big Island of Hawaii, and since then, we’ve been designing our life of healthy adventure.

We quit our jobs, sold our home in the Philadelphia suburbs, and spent almost a year doing a lot of hiking (including the entire Long Trail in Vermont and the West Highland Way in Scotland) and road-tripping around the US to find our new home.

Engagement kiss to seal the deal in the Pololu Valley, Big Island Hawaii.
